What distinguishes the witness of the prophets and the apostles, so that it can have this significance for the existence of the congregation and its proclamation to the world? After all, they were men fallible as we are, children of their time as we are of ours, and their spiritual horizon was as limited as ours—in significant ways, even more limited than ours. Whoever enjoys that sort of thing can again and again demonstrate that their natural science, conception of the world, an
The tail devouring serpent, known as the Ouroboros, is unarguably a cyclic symbol. In Norse mythology it is the sea-dwelling Midgard Serpent (Jormungand) that surrounds the world (Voluspa 50; Gylfaginning 34, 48; Skaldskaparmal 4; Hymiskvida 22; Husdrapa 4), making it a symbol of the cosmos, or like the Greek god Oceanos, the ocean deity that encircles the world [according to Homer Oceanos and Tethys gave life to all the gods], functions as a boundary dividing the creative cosmos from the chaoti… Continue

Long ago a great ram-headed serpent began to devour the hunters of a tribe. The great shaman-hunter Ker was brought before the chief of the people, who asked him why such terrible misfortune had befallen the people...
After a long wait since submitting my blog back in November 2008, a week and a half ago I discovered I made it into 9rules!
I'm part of the Religious Community. All the other religious bloggers are currently Christian. Here's my profile page.
A Mythology is like a series of sign posts, that direct us through this cosmic mystery, which is also the mystery of our own existence. Mythology is a product of the sub-conscious, which in turn, is the product of the underlying cause of all things, and so creation myths and end of the world myths, are directly linked with our own existence and mortality.
Prompting some discussion…
1. Anyone been influenced by the works of Joseph Campbell (or not)?
2. What impact has JC had on modern Paganism, if any?
3. Anything you particularly disagree about his theories?

In my previous post On the Threshold Between One Life Path and Another, I said that, “I’m a big believer that everyone whether they are secular or spiritually inclined are, in the larger scheme of things, on the right path towards whatever it is that their life is ultimately about.” By this, I am not asserting that secularization is a good thing. Especially in our modern world culture that attempts to negate the sacred aspect of reality. We have been force-fed a world view that subjugates us and… Continue
I was sad to learn via The Wild Hunt: Outgrowing Paganism? that the excellent Deo’s Shadow will no longer be podcasting. It’s been pretty obvious for some time that it was over. Now it is official :(
I’m a big believer that everyone whether they are secular or spiritually inclined are, in the larger scheme of things, on the right path towards whatever it is that their life is ultimately about. So, Mandy and Deo (and others) “outgrowing Paganism,” to my mind, is a good thing. If your current fai… Continue
Some time ago I was considering following a pantheon (either Irish-Celtic or Nordic, as I’m English-Irish). I inquired about this using Tarot, asking, “Should I become familiar with the Celtic or Norse divinities?” On reflection it was a dumb question, as it is my experience that Tarot (my prime method of communication with the divine) doesn’t answer those kind of queries. Really life choices are for us as individuals to decide, while divinity simply indicates the kind of transformation we need… Continue

My Pagan-Mythic Path is greatly influenced by the mystery of the lunar cycle, focusing mainly upon the waning and waxing crescents, that I term the ‘lunar double-door.’ It is within the lunar double-door that the opposites of manifest cosmic reality become one (more on that aspect of my mythos later).
My mythos is greatly influenced by the symbolism of Mystery Religions (commonly referred to as ‘cults,’ because they were not state religions). I focus mainly upon the lunar aspect of the dying an… Continue

After encountering this reference to Vita Merlini, as told by Geoffrey of Monmouth, I decided to check it out. I was especially intrigued by the references that Merlin donned antler horns and that the myth also contained references to the Major Arcana, at least according to R. J. Stewart...

This is Cernunnos’ Path. It is also the Fool’s Journey of the 22 cards that make up the Major Arcana of the Tarot. Cernunnos is the first person (and aspect of self) that the fool encounters in the guise of The Magician. The one who views the cosmos in its totality (the four mythic elements upon the magician’s table, represented by cups, wands, pentacles and swords) and can weave this complete knowledge into our lives, teaching us how to weave the magic ourselves. The beginning of this journey i… Continue

I have long since known that this world is filled with these injustices. However, I was so utterly naive as to the extent of these injustices; and this troubles me so. Somehow, I got caught up in an idea that this world was getting better and most people were attempting to right the wrongs of the past. This, I found it surprisingly untrue! Especially, our government, if you live in the US.
Several Over the past few weeks, I have been troubled in regards with the injustices of this world. yea… Continue
